Festival of Reading

In 2009 the Festival of Reading will feature a Fantastic Florida theme in libraries from March 25th through March 28th, 2009.  This year we have selected several award winning authors that reflect the history, environment and leisure life in Florida.  Authors include Cynthia Barnett, Florida Book Award (FBA) Gold Medal winner for Florida Nonfiction; Bill Belleville, Al Burt Award for Excellence in Journalism and FBA Bronze Medal Florida Nonfiction; James O. Born, FBA Gold Medal winner Popular Fiction; Dr. Kristin Congdon, Carolyn Washbon Award for best popular book in Florida history; Vic DiGenti, Florida Writer’s Association’s Royal Palm Award for the Best Young Adult Novel; Tim Dorsey, author of 11 best-selling novels; Mary Anna Evans, FBA Bronze Medal for Popular Fiction; Karen Hawkins, Georgia Romance Writers’ Maggie Award; Bruce Hunt, FBA Silver Medal winner for Florida Nonfiction; Dr. Gary Mormino, 2007 Choice Outstanding Academic Book Award;  Bob Morris, FBA Bronze Medal for Popular Fiction; Elaine Viets, winner of the Agatha, Anthony and Lefty Awards; Stephen G. Craft, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University professor.  Two exhibits will be featured including Janeen Mason, U.S. Maritime Literature Award and a Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award and 24 Women of Lake County at the W.T. Bland Public Library.

 

Libraries work year round through our Adult and Family Literacy programs, art and cultural programs and programs for babies, toddlers, children and young adults to promote the love of reading.  This time of the year we celebrate the book with this annual event that offers the opportunity to bring in authors that inspire and encourage that love.
